. Çubuk-Kızılca Köyü shelter:
Tel: (0312) 215-1555

. What are the shelters like?
They are gated compounds with cages in them. While most dogs are confined in cages, some are roaming outside. They are friendly.
. Who is in charge?
Municipality of Gölbaşı and Meliha Yilmaz Foundation, Municipality of Çankaya, and HAYKOD Foundation take care of the shelters at Gölbaşı, Mühye and Kızılca, respectively.
. How are the conditions?
Abovementioned organizations are working hard to keep up the shelters, but because dogs vastly outnumber the capability, help from volunteers is always needed.
. How can we help out?
If you prefer to help out physically:
Bring in the shelter food, water, shovels, gravel and/or sand. You can
. change water in dogs’ bowls,
. give them food (dog food or leftovers from your local restaurants or cafeterias),
. lay towels/blankets/pillows in dogs’ huts so they are warmer in winter,
. shovel off poops,
. lay gravel, sand or (with permission) cement in cages for easier clean up,
. fix bent cages.
. give love and affection to the dogs.
If you prefer to help out physically, but not in the shelter:
. Talk to your local hotels, restaurants (especially those with open buffets) or corporate cafeterias for them to keep their leftover foods, and tell us about them so we pick up the foods and take them to the shelter. (Please make sure they keep the trash free of classes, toothpicks or napkins, and that the foods are not rotten)
. Talk to your local grocery stores for dog food donations (especially foods with damaged bags or with approaching expiration dates), and let us know for pick up.
If you want to be an “invisible hero”:
. Either make donations to any of the supporting organizations listed above, or order low-priced dog food and have them be shipped to the shelter of your choice. (You can find a 15kg-bag of dog food for 40TL at websites like this one (in Turkish). If you'd prefer to have one of the volunteers to deliver your foods to dogs, you can get in touch with us using the "contact" page.
. Let people know of the shelters and this website so they can help! Have vets get in touch with us so we perform sterilizations with their help.
. Tell your friends or family who want to buy a dog to consider adopting a stray dog. There are dogs of all sizes, ages and skills on the streets and in shelters! (Can you imagine a better guard dog than a former stray dog who feels grateful to his owners for rescuing him from streets?)
